BURLINGTON - Mr. Calvin Wesley Massey, 85, of 3743C Bellemont-Mt. Hermon Road, Burlington, died at his residence on Saturday, March 23, 2013 at 8:10 p.m. following several years declining health.

Calvin was born in Carolina Mill Village and grew up in the Glencoe Mill Village. He was the husband of Nellie Cooke Massey, who survives and the son of I. Eugene Massey and Addie Smith Massey, both deceased. He retired from Culp Finishing. Calvin attended Belmont Baptist Church where he was a trustee and in charge of the cemetery. He came from a very musical family and loved to play the guitar and piano. While working at Mayfair Mill, he and some co-workers formed a country music band.
In addition to his wife of the home, survivors include a daughter, Shirlene Garner and husband Larry of Burlington and brother, Donnie Massey of Burlington.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Belinda Gayle Massey; two sisters, Evon Long and Thelma Massey; and brother, Garland Massey.
The funeral service will be conducted at Belmont Baptist Church on Wednesday, March 27, 2013 at 3 p.m. by the Rev. Larry Janey and Dr. Benny Vickrey Sr. with the family receiving friends from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. prior to the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. At other times, the family will be at the residence.
