Carolyn Neely Eckert, 92, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 5, 2012, after a brief illness.
She was born November 21, 1919 in Hinton, W.Va, the daughter of the late Amy Shepard and Richard C. Neely.
She was predeceased by her husband of 64 years, Edward F. Eckert, one sister, Virginia Douglass, and two brothers Dr. Richard Neely and Dr.Harold Neely.
She and her husband resided in Charleston, WVa. for 45 years where she raised her family and was actively involved in the Presbyterian Church as well as numerous other volunteer organizations. They moved to Gibsonville in 1986, where they continued their involvement with the First Presbyterian Church of Burlington.
She is survived by her son, Dr. Edward F. Eckert Jr. of Myrtle Beach, SC and her daughter Joanne Kesler (Russ) of Durham, NC, 5 grandchildren, Meredith Ellison (George) of Raleigh, Lindsey Eckert of Boston, Ma, Bradley Kesler of Durham, Amy Kesler of Chicago, Il., Kari Kesler of Greensboro; two great grandchildren, Jackson Ellison, and Benjamin Ellison; and two family pets, Winston and Maggie.
Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, 508 W. Davis Street, Burlington, NC 27215 or Hospice and Palliative Care of Alamance Caswell, 914 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, NC 27215.
A private graveside service was held in Hinton, W.Va. on Sunday, July 8, 2012 at Greenbrier Burial Park. A memorial service will be held at a future date in Burlington, NC.
