DENVER, N.C. - Dr. Charlotte Sharpe Daly, 71, died Sunday, Feb. 15, 2015.
She was born in Camp Atterbury, Ind., to the late Col. Granville A. Sharpe of Burlington and Alice Withers Sharpe of Davidson on May 22, 1943.
The family moved many times, living both in the U.S. and in Germany. As valedictorian of her high school class, she was graduated in the Heidelberg Castle in Germany. From UNC-Greensboro, she received the Bachelor of Fine Arts degree; from Florida State University, she received her Master's degree in Art History and her doctorate in Humanities, with specialty in U.S. history. It was a special privilege for her to write her dissertation on her father's battalion in World War II, and she later joined the 83rd Infantry Division Association in his honor. FSU awarded her the Gunter Stamm Memorial Award for Excellence. She was in the Army-Navy Chapter of the DAR and enjoyed exploring the family's roots in North Carolina. She was a gifted teacher and, after her retirement, became a true bibliophile.
But she is remembered most of all for her sparkling personality, wit and unique perspective that drew people to her. The absolute confidence of meeting her Savior, Jesus Christ, in heaven, sustained her during a long illness.
Dr. Daly is survived by two siblings, Martha Withers Sharpe and Granville A. Sharpe Jr. of Denver, N.C.
She was predeceased by her daughter, Alice Martha Daly.
Burial will be at Pine Hill Cemetery in Burlington. There will be no burial service.
