GIBSONVILLE - Clarence Morgan Norris Jr., 85, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, Feb. 15, 2013, at his home surrounded by his family. He was the husband of 64 years to Bernelle Griffin Norris, the love of his life, whom he married in 1949.
Clarence was born Feb. 23, 1927, in Branchville, S.C., to the late Clarence Morgan Norris Sr. and the late Pearl Berry Norris. He graduated from Branchville High School as valedictorian of his class in 1944. He was employed with Southern Bell Telephone Company until his health failed and he also was an active member of the Burlington Telephone Pioneers. Clarence was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in McLeansville and he enjoyed gardening and working in his yard. He loved college basketball, Nascar and cooking. He enjoyed crocheting and made things to give to family and friends. Clarence was an inspiration to many during his lifetime and a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
He is survived by his wife, Bernelle Griffin Norris of the home; daughter, Beryl Anne Mayberry of Whitsett, and a son, Ken Norris and wife, Lynn, of Gibsonville; granddaughters, Andria Martin and husband, David, and Christy Mayberry, both of Greensboro; grandson, Neil Mayberry of Greensboro; and great-grandchildren, Alexis Mayberry, Neil Mayberry and Allie Martin; brothers, Johnny Norris of Branchville, S.C., Tommy Norris of Jacksonville, Fla.; twin brother, Clifford Norris of Jacksonville, Fla., and Mike Norris and wife, Jane, of St. George, S.C. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Carl Norris.
A service to celebrate his life will be held Monday, Feb. 18, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Tim Stevens and the burial will follow at Lakeview Memorial Park in Greensboro. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 5 to 7 p.m. and other times at the home.
