BURLINGTON - Mr. Clarence William Matherly, 92, of Burlington, died at the Hospice Home on Friday, Dec. 28, 2012.

A native of Chatham, Va., he was the husband of the late Valeria "Nickie" Burke Matherly and the son of Spencer Matherly Sr. and Edna Earl McGhee Matherly Dudleck, both deceased.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during World War II, and a recipient of five bronze medals. He retired from Burlington Industries. He was a lifetime member of Beverly Hills United Church of Christ.
Survivors include two sisters, Katie Treo of Burlington and Grace Shepherd of Florida.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, James Matherly, Spencer "Spud" Matherly Jr., George Dudleck and Oscar Dudleck; and two sisters, Mary May and Ruth Aydt.
The funeral service will be conducted in the Rich & Thompson Chapel in Burlington on Sunday, Dec. 30, 2012 at 2 p.m. by the Rev. Jim Owen, with the family receiving friends from 12:45 to 1:45 p.m. prior to the service. Burial will follow in Alamance Memorial Park. At other times the family will be at the home of Robert and Shirley Burke, 728 Grey Rock Road, Whitsett, N.C.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to James Long, Dianne Shipmon and Lucille Dudleck for their support over the years. They would also like to thank the nurses and staff at the Hospice Home for the care given to Clarence.
