GREENSBORO, N.C. - Mrs. Della Mae Trotter Kernodle, 88, passed away on Monday, July 1, 2013.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday at Forbis & Dick Pleasant Garden Chapel. Interment will follow at Alamance Memorial Park in Burlington. The Rev. Mike Barrett will officiate.
Della was born in Guilford County on March 2, 1925. She was a homemaker, a volunteer with the Red Cross and caregiver in Cumberland County. She was a member of The Eastern Star and Red Hat Society. Della was an active member of Pleasant Garden Baptist Church and enjoyed traveling, especially mission trips with Feed the Children. She was a loving and caring mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her parents, June Cicero and Lillie Jane Saferight Trotter; husband John Franklin Kernodle II; son, John F. Kernodle III; brothers, J.C. Trotter and Joe Trotter; and half sister, Helen Crutchfield.
Left to cherish her memory are her sons, James Monroe Kernodle (Anita) of South Africa, and Mark David Kernodle (Carol) of Fayetteville; daughter, Lora Mae Hawks (Randall) of Greensboro; grandchildren, Dr. James M. Kernodle Jr., Natalie Jane Jester, Amanda Hofmeyr, Blair Scheepers, Myra "Belle" McCormick, John A. Hawks, Ashley N. Hawks, Heather A. Hawks; 10 great-grandchildren and one great-great- granddaughter.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. on Thursday at Forbis & Dick Pleasant Garden Chapel.
