LIBERTY - Mrs. Dorothy Branson Murray, 88, of West Greensboro-Chapel Hill Road, Liberty, died at the Hospice Home in Burlington on Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013 at 7:27 p.m., following a brief illness.
A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of the late Ferry C. "Buddy" Murray and the daughter of Chester Dorland Branson and Addie Clapp Branson, both deceased.
She was formerly employed with Standard Hosiery Mills and was a bookkeeper with Murray's Trucking Company. She also worked for several years with her husband in the upholstery shop. Dorothy was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Fidelis Sunday School Class. She enjoyed sewing, planting flowers and cooking meals for her family.
Survivors include sons, Don C. Murray and wife Frieda of Burlington and R. Craig Murray and wife Mary of Liberty; daughter, Leasa M. Henry and husband Michael of Liberty; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Opal Graves, of Snow Camp.
She was preceded in death by a grandson, Jay A. Murray; an infant sister, Novella Branson; three sisters, Mae Johnson, Myrll Layton and Ruth Johnson; and two brothers, Herman Branson and Ned Branson.
In honor of her wishes, services will be private.
The family will receive friends at the home of Leasa and Michael Henry, 6400 Kimesville Road, Liberty, N.C.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Alamance-Caswell, 918 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, NC 27215 or to Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, P.O. Box 280, Alamance, NC 27201.
