BURLINGTON - Deacon Ervin Baynes, 91, of 2459 Willie Pace Road, died Oct. 26, 2012 at Beacon Place in Greensboro.
He was the husband of the late Mrs. Ruth Vanhook Baynes and son of Mr. Jiles "Tom" Baynes and Mrs. Lottie Chambers Baynes, both deceased.
He was retired from Burlington Industries and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of Sweet Gum Grove Missionary Baptist Church.
Survivors include a son, Jiles Thomas Baynes of Alaska; a daughter, Loretta Brown (Robert) of Greensboro; a brother, Charlie "C.D" Baynes (Roberta) of New Jersey; two sisters, Nellie B. Bigelow and Maude Bonney, both of New Jersey, and seven grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Carolyn Pride; and siblings Waddell Baynes and Milther Sellars.
Public viewing will be Thursday from 1 to 9 p.m. at Sharpe Funeral Home in Burlington. Visitation will be Thursday evening from 7 to 8 at Sharpe Funeral Home. At other times the family will receive visitors at the home.
The funeral will be Friday, Nov. 2 at 2 p.m. at Sweet Gum Grove Missionary Baptist Church. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
