BURLINGTON - Mr. Eugene Calvin Cheek, 88, of 963 Rascoe Dameron Road, Burlington, died at Blue Ridge Manor, Martinsville, Va. on Monday, Oct. 15, 2012 following five months of declining health.
A native of Orange County, he was the husband of Edith Walker Cheek, who survives, and the son of Weldon Cheek and Bessie Fox Cheek, both deceased. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army during the Normandy Campaign. He was a retired barber and also retired from General Electric in Mebane. He attended Bush Arbor Primitive Baptist Church and was a member of the Southern Caswell Ruritan Club.
In addition to his wife of the home, survivors include two daughters, Cynthia C. Harrell and husband James of Clover, S.C. and Cheryl Cheek of Lynchburg, Va.; two sons, Donald Cheek and wife Debbie of Mebane and the Rev. Larry Cheek and wife Jan of Martinsville, Va.; a brother, Clarence Cheek of Mebane; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Jim Cheek, John Cheek and Joe Cheek; and two sisters, Nellie Sykes and Lula Morris.
A graveside service will be conducted at Bush Arbor Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery on Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2012 at 2 p.m. by the Rev. Larry Cheek, with the family receiving friends following the service in the church. At other times they will be at the residence.
