BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Frances Horner Brown went to be with the Lord on September 6, 2013 at the age of 94. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Benjamin Blaine Brown Jr., her parents, Hallie Aurelia Malone and Charles Maynard Horner, and her sisters, Louise Malone Horner and Eleanor Horner Vaughan.

Frances was a native of Burlington, N.C., and a graduate of Burlington High School and The University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She taught high school business classes at Clinton and Tarboro, N.C. For two years she worked for the Federal Bureau of Investigation in the stenographic department.
Frances was an active member of Mountain Brook Baptist Church, where she taught the Love Sunday School Class for 25 years. She was a spiritual mentor to many young women. She was also very active in her community as a member of the Women's Committee of 100, The Samford Auxiliary, The Salvation Army Auxiliary, The Mountain Brook Zoning Board, The Country Club of Birmingham, and as a former member of the Rosecrest Garden Club and The Club.
She is survived by her sons Benjamin Blaine Brown III (Maryanne H. Brown) of Montgomery, Ala., and Charles Randall Brown (Gail Gunter Brown) of Peachtree City, Ga.; grandchildren, Laura Wright Fuselier (F. Scott Fuselier) of Houston, Christina Ashley Brown of Montgomery, Ala., Lindsay Elizabeth Brown and Bradford Randall Brown of Birmingham, Ala.; great-granddaughters, Kate Fuselier and Greer Fuselier of Houston; her nephew, David Alan Vaughan, niece, Martha Vaughan Smith (Bobby J. Smith), and great nieces and nephews, all of Burlington, N.C..
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 11, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. in the sanctuary of Mountain Brook Baptist Church. The family will receive friends in Hudson Hall one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Elmwood Cemetery in Birmingham.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be sent to Mountain Brook Baptist Church, 3631 Montevallo Road, Birmingham, AL 35213 or to the Frances Horner Brown Scholarship Fund, Samford University, 800 Lakeshore Drive, Birmingham, AL 35229.
