SNOW CAMP - Mr. Gary Odell Moser, 65, of 6272 Cane Creek Road, Snow Camp, died at Alamance Regional Medical Center on Thursday, March 6, 2014 at 11:35 PM.
A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of Sarah Cooper Moser, who survives, and the son of Cecil Edward Moser Sr. and Doris Evans Moser, both deceased. He played in the North Carolina Shrine Bowl in 1966. Gary was a co-captain in 1970 for the North Carolina State Wolfpack. He was a drivers education teacher, football coach, and golf coach for twenty years at Graham High School. His was one of five jerseys to be retired by Graham High School. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame of Graham. He was a member of Christ Church. Gary received the Distinguished Service in Sports Award through the Alamance County Hall of Fame and Chamber of Commerce. He was a member of the Wolfpack club, the Thomas Holt Masonic Lodge, and the North Carolina Football Coaches Association.
In addition to his wife he is survived by a daughter, Christie Handcock; two grandchildren of Arkansas; three step daughters, Jerri Earwood of Dallas, GA, Heather Phitides and husband Shane of Jacksonville, FL, and Alex Stephens and husband Mike of Charlotte, NC; five step grandchildren; two brothers, Cecil Moser Jr. of Graham and Rex Moser and wife Suzanne of Graham; a sister, Mary Harrison of Virginia Beach, VA; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Keith Moser.
A funeral service will be held at the Rich & Thompson Chapel in Graham on Sunday, March 9, 2014 at 4:00 PM by the Rev. Darryl Peebles. Burial will follow at Historic Providence Memorial Cemetery.
The family will receive friends prior to the service on Sunday at Rich & Thompson Funeral Home and Crematory in Graham from 3:00 until 4:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
