Mrs. Grace M. Roth, 89, formerly of Somers Ave., Burlington, passed away Monday, June 23, 2014, at Morningside Assisted Living in Raleigh.
A native of Brooklyn, New York, Mrs. Roth was the wife of the late William G. Roth and the daughter of the late George Alfred Smith and the late Mary Emma Fredericks Smith.
Mrs. Roth was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. She retired from Macy's Inc. in Huntington, N.Y.
Mrs. Roth was a member of St. Philip Lutheran Church in Raleigh and a member of Macedonia Lutheran Church in Burlington. She was also a member of Macedonia's Circle #3 and the Shallowford Extension Homemakers Club.
She enjoyed craft work of all kinds, but excelled at counted cross stitch and leaves behind many beautiful examples.
She is survived by her son, Gary G. Roth and his wife, Joyce, of Cary; a sister, Lorraine Von Glahn of Greenport, N.Y.; godson, Douglas Joseph Lomma, of East Northport, N.Y.; goddaughter and niece, Carol Grace Dinda, of New Suffolk, N.Y.; two other nieces, Denise Ruth Von Glahn of Tallahassee, Fla. and Janet Ellen Craig of Old Field, N.Y.; three grandnephews, three grandnieces and three great-grandnephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Roth was preceded in death by a son, Thomas George Roth and a brother, George Joseph Smith.
Burial was held Tuesday, July 1, 2014, in Calverton National Cemetery in Calverton, N.Y. The Rev. Mary Speers officiated.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 26, 2014, at 11 a.m. in St. Philip Lutheran Church, 7304 Falls of Neuse Road, Raleigh, NC 27615. Officiating will be the Rev. Dr. Anne Marie Nuechterlein.
A reception will be held at Morningside Assisted Living, 801 Dixie Trail, Raleigh, after the memorial service.
The family thanks the staff of Morningside Assisted Living and Heartland Hospice for their loving care. They made every day about living and not about dying.
