ELON, N.C. - Harry Joseph Reinheimer, 85, passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2012 at his home. He was the husband of 54 years to Mary Louise Hill Reinheimer, who survives.
Harry retired from IBM after 42 years of service as a graduate engineer and was the designer on the first IBM mainframe. After retirement, he was an adjunct professor at Syracuse University. Harry was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and a 4th degree Knights of Columbus. He also sang in the Knights of Columbus Chorale and was involved in Barbershop Quartets for many years.
A veteran of the U.S. Navy serving in World War II, he was a graduate of Syracuse University where he received his Bachelors and Masters Degrees. Harry was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Louise Hill Reinheimer, of the home; daughters, Margaret Mary Baffa and husband Richard of Cambridge, England, Ann Elizabeth Butler and husband Scott of Burlington; sons, Thomas Jude Reinheimer of Germantown, Md., Edward Anthony Reinheimer of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Stephen Francis Reinheimer of Wilmington and Susan Sidden Reinheimer of Elon, Richard Rexford Reinheimer and wife Joan of Stevensville, Md., Henry James Reinheimer of Winchester, Va. and Paul Joseph Reinheimer and wife Allison of Reston, Va.; 25 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews; sister, Joan Marie Dirac of Hyannis, Mass. He also leaves behind his pet companions, ""Cookie"" and ""BB"".
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry Joseph Reinheimer and Alice Mary McCourt Reinheimer; and his daughter-in-law, Kim Reinheimer.
A funeral mass will be held Saturday, Nov. 24, 2012 at 1 p.m. at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church by the Rev. Paul Gabriel OFM Conv. The family will receive friends from noon until 1 p.m. prior to the service at the church and at other times at the residence.
