Howard Shoffner Obituary

LIBERTY - Mr. Howard Eugene Shoffner of 3071 East NC 62, Liberty, died at his residence on Thursday, Sept. 5, 2013. He was three weeks shy of turning the age of 96.
A native of Guilford County, he was the husband of 67 years to Martha Shoffner, who survives and the son of Arthur Eugene Shoffner and Fairy Coley Shoffner, both deceased. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Coley Shoffner.
Howard was a veteran of the U. S. Army serving during World War II in the European Theater as a member of the Signal Corps as a Motor Messenger. He fought in battles and campaigns in North Africa, Italy, Rome, Southern France, Austria, Germany, Rhineland and Central Europe. Later, he was employed with and retired from Federal Waste Paper Recycling Company.
Howard was a man that was kind and giving beyond words. He was a strong, faithful family man who provided and put his family and God first. He was a strong and passionate worker who always had a smile to give. He taught his children and his grandchildren many valuable and lifelong lessons they will never forget. His hobbies were gardening, farmers market and painting. He loved life and loved watching his garden grow and taking the produce to the farmers market twice a week. He was a lifelong member of Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church of Kimesville.
In addition to his wife of the home, survivors include a son, George Shoffner and wife Kathy; daughter, Karen Shue and husband Mickey; granddaughters and their spouses, Brad and Emily Lanning and Chris and Lauren Greeson; and four beautiful great-grandchildren, Mason and Kendra Lanning and Audrey and Natalee Greeson.
The funeral service will be conducted at Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church of Kimesville on Sunday, Sept. 8, 2013, at 2 p.m. by the Rev. Chuck Ireson. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the Rich & Thompson Funeral and Cremation Service in Burlington on Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m. Other times they will be at the residence.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Hospice League of Alamance-Caswell, 918 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, NC 27215 and/or to Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church of Kimesville Cemetery Fund, 4400 Alamance Church Road, Liberty, NC 27298.

My hearts breaks for you as you travel this depressing road without Howard. He loved you all very much and would want you to find time to remember the "good stuff" after your crying has ceased. Howard was a dear, sweet man and I really enjoyed talking with him.
