Mr. James Elmer Nance, 90, of Burlington died at his residence on Sunday, Sept. 1, 2013, at 10:28 a.m.

A native of Rockingham County, he was the husband of the late Gladys Louise Cox Nance and the son of Edgar Lee Nance and Kathleen Caldwell Nance, both deceased. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army serving during World War II in Naples-Foggia, Rome-Arno, Southern France, Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. James was a retired employee of Western Electric.
Survivors include two sons, Lloyd W. Nance and wife Jann of Colorado Springs, Colo., and James D. Nance and wife Jeane of Burlington; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and a brother, Thomas Nance of Greensboro.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Melvin Nance and two sisters, Laverne Anderson and Dorothy Shaw.
A graveside service will be conducted at Alamance Memorial Park on Friday, Sept. 6, 2013, at 1 p.m.
The family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. prior to the graveside service at the Rich & Thompson Funeral Home and Crematory in Graham.
