MEBANE - James Everett Albright, 88, died at 3:20 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2011, after 10 years of declining health and three days of critical illness. He passed away peacefully with family by his side at Hospice and Palliative Care Center of Burlington. He was a loving husband, devoted father, proud PaPa and a kind, helpful brother and uncle,and friend to many.
He was born in the Hawfields Community of Alamance County on Dec. 14, 1922. He was a graduate of Alexander Wilson High School and was a lifetime member of Hawfields Presbyterian Church. His church leadership began as early as his teen years when he served as President of the Senior High Fellowship and joined the church choir at age 15. He remained a choir member for 65 years often serving as a soloist. He loved gospel music and was a member of the Albright Brothers Quartet for over 50 years. He served as a church deacon or elder for much of his adult life. In addition, he served as President of the Men of the Church, a Church Trustee and was a member of various committees serving many years on both the Worship & Music Committee and the Cemetery Committee.
He retired as owner and operator of the James E. Albright Construction Co. after working as a builder for 45 years. He built many houses in the Hawfields area and was also involved in the construction of the Fellowship Building at Hawfields Presbyterian Church. He served as chairman of the Planning Committee for the construction of the Presbyterian Home of Hawfields, where he also was a 35 year member of the Board of Directors with 10 years as chairman.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Faye Mundy Albright; a daughter, Eva Albright Covington and husband Fenton, of Mebane; two sons, James E. (Jim) Albright Jr. and wife, Ida, of Winterville, N.C. and Boyce R. Albright of Mebane; five grandchildren, Jamie Albright and wife Traci of Midlothian, Va., Brandi Albright of Greenville, N.C., Tina Covington Gordon and husband Jeff of Raleigh, N.C., Kyle Covington and wife Suzanne of Wake Forest, N.C. and Molly Albright of Mebane; four great-grandchildren, Jake and Nick Albright of Midlothian, Va., Cameron Gordon of Raleigh, N.C. and Claire Covington of Wake Forest, N.C.; brother, Daniel G. Albright and sister, Mary Albright Boyer, both of Mebane.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William Herbert and Stella Nicholson Albright; brothers, Linwood and Elmo Albright; and sister, Annie Laura Albright.
A celebration of life will be conducted at Hawfields Presbyterian Church on Oct. 16, 2011 at 2 p.m. Officiating will be the Rev. J. David Ealy of Hawfields Presbyterian Church and Pastor Stu Johnston, Chaplain of the Presbyterian Home of Hawfields. Burial will be in the Hawfields Cemetery. The family will receive friends in the church sanctuary immediately following interment.
