SUMMERFIELD, N.C. - The Rev. James William "Jim" Covington, 88, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2012, at Countryside Manor in Stokesdale.
Jim was born in Rockingham County, N.C. on Oct. 16, 1923, one of 13 children of Flay D. and Pearl Easter Covington. He worked until his retirement as a skilled master carpenter. He enjoyed spending time outdoors, hunting and fishing. He was a charter member of Gethsemane Baptist Church. Jim also served as pastor of Lake Brandt Baptist Church. He will be deeply missed by his loving family and many friends.
Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Mariam Rebecca "Becky" Covington, in 1985.
Those left to cherish his memory are his children, Richard Wayne Covington and wife Faye of Liberty, N.C., Robert Covington and wife Tammy of Orange, Texas, J. Milton Covington and wife Allen of Gibsonville, N.C., Linda Covington Adams and husband Larry of Raleigh, N.C.; sisters, Ruby Stanley, Eursey Johnson, Shirley Bame, Betty Gibson, Bonnie Paschal, Mary Gray Johnson; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 6 to 8 at Hanes Lineberry N. Elm Chapel.
Graveside services will be held on Friday at 1 p.m. at Gethsemane Baptist Church on North Church Street.
