PROSPECT HILL, N.C. - Jerry Wilson Poteat, 72, of 5727 Ridgeville Road, passed away peacefully in his sleep Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2013.

He was born Oct. 3, 1941, to the late Clyde and Doris Poteat. On April 26, 1963, he married the love of his life Marie Brandon.
Jerry retired from Yanceyville Texaco (Barco) after over 20 years as manager. He loved his customers and his customers loved him. He always greeted everyone with a smile on his face.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Marie Brandon Poteat; three children, Gary Poteat, of Prospect Hill, N.C., Kelly Poteat Smith and husband David of Leasburg, N.C. and Robin Poteat Tatum, of Prospect Hill, N.C.; two grandsons, who were the apples of his eyes, Trey and Dylan Tatum, both of Prospect Hill, N.C.; his beloved pit bull, Smokey, and his grand-dogs Beau and Diesel.
The family will receive friends Thursday, Oct. 17, 2013, at Harrelson Funeral Service in Yanceyville, N.C. from 6 to 8 p.m. and at other times at the residence, 5727 Ridgeville Road, Prospect Hill, N.C.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 18, 2013, at Lebanon United Church of Christ on Cunningham Road, Semora, N.C.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Prospect Hill Fire Department, Highway 86 South, Prospect Hill, NC; or, to Alamance-Caswell Hospice, 918 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, NC 27215.
