MEBANE - Harvey James "Jimmy" Ray Sr. , 65, died Saturday, May 4, 2013, at Durham Regional Hospital after a brief illness. He is survived by daughter Corrina Carter (Craig), of Hillsborough; son J.J. Ray (Stephanie), of Winston-Salem; daughter Jeanette Alvis (Russell), of Mebane; sisters, Andrea Lewis (Bob), of Hillsborough, Susan Aiken (Don), of Creedmoor, and Laura Pennington (Doug), of Burlington; six grandchildren, Shelbie Carter, Neil Carter (Hope), William Ray, Michael Ray, Tristan Alvis and Jonathan Alvis; nieces and nephews; and good friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Harvey N. and Marietta L. Ray, his brother, Daniel Ray; and wife Wanda B. Ray.
The family will receive visitors at McClure Funeral Home in Mebane from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 7, and other times at the home of Jeanette Alvis, 4007 White Level Road, Mebane. The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Wednesday, May 8, at Mount Zion Christian Church, 3210 Mount Zion Church Road, Mebane, by the Rev. Rick Webster and Russell Alvis, with burial in Mount Zion's cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Mount Zion Christian Church, 3210 Mount Zion Church Road, Mebane, NC 27302.
