BURLINGTON - Joe R. Burwell, 90, of the Village of Brookwood, died on Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2013 at the Village of Brookwood.
A native of Stokes County, he was the son of John W. Burwell Sr. and Edna Page Burwell, both deceased. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Burlington. Joe was also a member of the Burlington Civitan Club and Salvation Army Advisory Board.
He is survived by a son, David R. Burwell and his wife Sheila of Trinity, N.C.; one stepson; two stepdaughters; one granddaughter; two stepgrandsons; and 16 great-stepgrandchildren.
A funeral service will be conducted Friday, Feb. 15, 2013 at 3 p.m. in the Rich & Thompson Chapel in Burlington by Dr. Howard Thompson. Burial will follow at Pine Hill Cemetery. Members of the Burlington Civitan Club will be honorary pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 2 until 3 p.m. prior to the service on Friday.
Memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care Center of Alamance-Caswell, 918 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, NC 27215.

David, so sorry for your loss. I loved both your Mama and Daddy when we were kids at West Burlington Methodist many years ago. Those memories don't fade away. You are in my thoughts and prayers.
