BURLINGTON - Mr. John A. Corbett, 87, of 2265 Kerrs Chapel Road, died April 2, 2013 at Hospice of Alamance/Caswell.

He was the husband of Mrs. Myrtle Ophelia Turner Corbett who survives, and the son of Mr. Ossie Corbett and Mrs. Ada Morrow Corbett, both deceased. He was a long-time member of Stoney Creek AME Church and was a member of the trustee board, the Male Chorus and the Senior Choir for many years. He also loved to cook and work in the garden and farm.
Survivors include nine sons, John Corbett Jr. of Burlington, Lee Corbett and Guilford Corbett, both of the home, Douglas Corbett (Gabriel), Ricky Corbett (Latisha) of Burlington, Rodney Kyle Corbett of Yanceyville, Tracey Corbett (Holly) of Burlington, Andrew Corbett (Stephanie) of Graham and Billy Corbett (Jessica) of Burlington; three daughters, Marie Corbett (Elroy), Adam Corbett Bruce Swift, both of Burlington and Vicky Corbett of Raleigh; two brothers, Melvin Corbett (Elizabeth) and James Corbett of Caswell County; two sisters, Louise Walker of Elon, and Betty Chrisp of Caswell County; 25 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by one son, Willie Elmer Corbett; two brothers, David Corbett and Virgil Corbett; and two sisters, Catherine Poteat and Mary Ruth Watlington.
The wake will be Thursday, April 4, 2013 from 7 to 8 p.m. with public viewing from 1 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the Roy Blackwell Chapel of Blackwell Funeral Home in Burlington. At other times the family will receive visitors and friends at the home of Marie and Elroy Corbett, 2142 Kerrs Chapel Road, Burlington.
The funeral will be Friday, April 5, 2013 at Stoney Creek AME Church in Elon with the Rev. James Swain providing words of comfort. The body will lie in state from 1 to 2 p.m. at the church prior to the service. The family will arrive at 1:30 p.m. Burial will be in Union Chapel UCC cemetery.
Services are entrusted to Blackwell Funeral Home in Burlington.
