MEBANE - The Rev. John Edward Davis, 72, of 105 Kit Court, died Jan. 31, 2014, at ARMC.
He was the husband of Carolyn Collier Davis of the home and son of James Steward Davis and Lacy Bell Davis, both deceased.
He respected everyone and in return he was well-respected and liked by everyone who knew him. He was a faithful servant of the Lord. At an early age he began to worship the Lord and spent most of his life spreading the gospel. He was the former pastor of First Baptist Church in Mebane. He was also former pastor of Oak City Baptist Church in Raleigh, N.C. and helped co-found Union Bible School in Durham, N.C.
Survivors other than his wife include two sons, Cralen Collier Davis (Karen Curry Davis) of Atlanta, and Crasten Collier Davis of Mebane; a daughter, Etonia Gardette Davis of Raleigh; three brothers, Nathaniel Davis (Martha) of Berea, N.C., Robert Lee Davis (Betty) of Lumberton and Raymond McArthur Davis (Violet) of Baton Rouge, La.; four sisters, Virginia Sadler (Willie) and Dorothy Jordan, both of Bridgeport, Conn., Annie Jean Bobbit (Doug) of Knightdale, N.C. and Maxine Londa (the late Don Londa) of Raleigh; a brother-in-law, Charles Leach (the late Shirley Leach); seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by a son, Emanuel Edward Davis; three brothers, Wiley Davis (Marion Davis), Berley Davis, James Oliver Davis; and a sister, Shirley Leach.
Public viewing will be Friday, Feb. 7 from 1 to 8 p.m. at the Roy Blackwell Chapel in the Blackwell Funeral Home, 1292 Rauhut St., Burlington.
The wake will be Friday, Feb. 7, 2014, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the RBC at Blackwell Funeral Home.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, 2014, at Jeffries Cross Baptist Church, 2015 Jeffries Cross Road, Burlington. Burial will be in Mebane Community Cemetery.
Visitation will be Saturday, Feb. 8 from noon to 1 p.m. prior to the service with the family arriving at noon. At other times, friends may visit with the family at the residence, 105 Kit Court, Mebane.
