BURLINGTON, N.C. - Mrs. Juanita O. Alston, 91, of 360 N. St. John Street, died Oct. 23, 2013, at her residence.
She was the wife of the late Mr. James "Honey" Alston and the daughter of Mr. Minter T. Hadley and Mrs. Roberta G. Cotton Hadley, both deceased.
Mrs. Alston was a member of Pittsboro Church of God, where she served as a Sunday School teacher, missionary and member of the choir. She was an Elder of the Church and Mother of the church. She was a member of the Graham Bible Band. She loved to cook (especially pound cake), read the Bible, counsel people and loved her family.
Survivors include her son, Glenn Ray Hadley of New Jersey; brothers, Willie R. Hadley (Ruth B.) of Graham and Edward Hadley (Paulette) of Pittsboro; sisters, Joyce McKissick and Delois Hadley, both of Pittsboro; six grandchildren, Ray Hadley of Kentucky, Cherry Hadley of Burlington, Michael Hadley (Montrena) of Mebane, Woody Hadley of Graham, and Kiesha Hadley and Glenray Hadley, both of Atlanta; sister-in-law, Macie Hadley of Pittsboro; brother-in-law, the Rev. Peter Bell of Pittsboro; and a host of great- and great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives of the Alston family, and friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three brother, Isaiah Pete Hadley (Maude), Clyde Lee "Ted" Hadley and Alvis Hadley; five sisters, Rebecca Crump (Clarence), Annie Mae Stone (Ambrose), Junior Grace Bell, Baggelea Hadley and Gracie Jeraldine Baldwin (Thomas); and a brother-in-law, James McKissick.
The public viewing will be Saturday, Oct. 26, 2013, from 1 to 8 p.m. at Blackwell Funeral Home, Burlington. At other times the family will receive friends at the residence.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 27, 2013, at Pittsboro Church of God, with the Rev. Edward McAdams delivering the eulogy. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
