BURLINGTON - Mrs. LaRue Starr Benson, 89, of 1728 Erwin Avenue, Burlington, died peacefully at Alamance Regional Medical Center on Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2012 at 9:30 p.m.
A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of the late Charles K. Benson Sr. and the daughter of Lacy Monroe Starr and Betty Holt Starr, both deceased. She was a retired employee of AT&T and a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. She was a member of Front Street United Methodist Church since 1944 and the United Methodist Women.
Survivors include three sons, Rodney S. Benson and wife Sarah of Manteo, N.C., David H. Benson of Graham and John M. Benson and wife Carol of Greensboro; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth Benson Jr.; four sisters, Margaret Scott, Aylease Bowman, Swanora Wood and Betsy McPherson; and a brother, John S. Starr.
The funeral service will be conducted in the Rich & Thompson Chapel in Graham on Saturday, Oct. 20, 2012 at noon by the Rev. Marshall Old, with the family receiving friends from 11 to noon prior to the service. Burial will follow in Pine Hill Cemetery.
