BURLINGTON - Mr. Lawrence Owen Long, 90, of 1215 Lakeside Avenue Extension, Burlington, died at his residence on Wednesday, July 17, 2013.

A native of Halifax, Va., he was the husband of the late Evon Mexie Massey Long and the son of Jesse Thomas Long and Thelma Atkins Long, both deceased. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during World War II and awarded two Purple Hearts. He was formerly employed with Kayser-Roth as a sock boarder. Lawrence was a member of Glencoe Baptist Church for 75 years.
Survivors include a stepson, Ronald Gilbert Ashworth of Burlington; grandson, Ronald Lee Ashworth and wife Kimberly Dawn of Burlington; brother, Bobby Long of Burlington; sister, Elsie Harper of Durham; three great-grandchildren, Angelika Ashworth, Amberly Ashworth and Addisson Ashworth; and many more loved ones.
The funeral service will be conducted at the Rich & Thompson Chapel in Burlington on Friday, July 19, 2013 at 11 a.m. by Pastor Darrell Massey with the family receiving friends from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow in McCray Cemetery. At other times they will be at the residence.
