Leonard Joseph Tatum

YANCEYVILLE - Leonard Joseph Tatum, 72, of 152 Murphy Street died Sunday May 3, 2009 at his residence.

He was born December 13, 1936, in Caswell County to Walter C. and Vertie Neely Tatum. He attended Bartlett Yancey High School, was of the Baptist faith, a U.S. Air Force Veteran, and he retired from Piedmont Natural Gas.

Survivors include two sons, Leonard J. Tatum II and wife Kimberly of Danville, Virginia, and Jonathan Payne Tatum and wife Natasha of Oak Island; three sisters, Odell T. Carter of Graham, Vertie T. Aherron of Danville, Brenda T. Worsham of Reidsville; one brother, John Tatum of Prospect Hill; three grandchildren, Leonard J. (Trey) Tatum III, Dylan Clay Tatum, and Makayla Grace Tatum.

In addition to his parents he was predeceased by two brothers, William (Duke) Tatum and Wayne Tatum.

A graveside service will be Wednesday May 6, 2009, at 11 a.m. at Union United Methodist Church cemetery conducted by Wayne Jones.

The family will receive friends Tuesday May 5, 2009 from 7 until 8:30 p.m. at Harrelson Funeral Home Chapel and at other times at the home of his brother John at 355 John Oakley Road, Prospect Hill.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Yanceyville Fire Department.

Harrelson Funeral Service is assisting the Tatum family with arrangements.
