MEBANE - Linda Lee Ford, 65, of 7 Windsor Place, Mebane, died suddenly on April 26, 2013, of heart failure near her daughter's home in Apex.
She was, and ever shall be, a loving wife, a proud mother, a steadfast sister and a doting grandmother.
A native of Chicago, Linda worked in her younger years as an airline reservationist for both Eastern Airlines and United Airlines. Linda went on to earn an Associate's Degree in Food Service Management which she applied during her 18 ½ –year career in the Alamance County School System. Upon retirement, Linda was manager of the Graham High School cafeteria where she always put the best interest of her employees and students first.
Linda was an avid reader of fiction. Her optimism was often demonstrated through eagerness to love and help others find happiness in hard times. Also an active citizen, Linda ran for and narrowly missed, gaining a seat on the Mebane City Council. A favorite period of Linda's life was serving as leader of Girl Scout Troop 547 when she enabled eye-opening and horizon-broadening trips to Savannah, Ga., Charleston, S.C. and D.C. as well as numerous camping trips and cultural events for the girls of her troop.
She always had time for her family. Linda unfailingly spent her vacations with extended family members, and in fact, was on the eve of another vacation cruise bound for Hawaii just two days hence.
Linda is survived by her husband of 42 years, James W. Ford; her three daughters, Kimberly Reichbach, husband Milan Reichbach and daughter Morgan Reichbach, Cassie Ford (daughter), Meredith Reed (daughter) and husband Mason Reed; brothers, Robert Craig and his sons, Robert, William and Michael, and brother Mark Craig; brother and sisters-in-law, Franklin Ford and Sheila Ford with son Brian and wife April Ford, son Kevin Ford and wife Jessica Ford and their daughters, Ariana Ford and Kiera Ford and brother-in-law Kenneth Ford.
Cousins and dear family members include Henry Garrison, Jerry Garrison, Barbara Garrison, Beverly Garrison and Britt Garrison, and honorary aunt and uncle to Linda's children are Dean and Beverly Harbutt.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 1, 2013 at McClure Funeral home in Mebane.
The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, May 2, 2013 at Hawfields Presbyterian Church, conducted by the Rev. J. David Easley. Burial will be in Wake Memorial Park in Cary, N.C.
