Mr. Loie Ray McMahan Sr., 89, a resident of Presbyterian Nursing Home in Hawfields, died Thursday morning, Dec. 20, 2012, in the Alamance Regional Medical Center.

Mr. McMahan was born Dec. 16, 1923 in Bryson City, a son of Lum and Alice Holden McMahan. He had been a resident of High Point most of his life and was retired owner/operator of Southern Motors. He was a veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Navy, was of the Baptist Faith and a former member of the Acacia Masonic Lodge #674. Mr. McMahan was a sponsor for Petty Enterprises for many years, High Point Man of the Year and a developer of many rural farms. He constructed the First Citizen Building (One Plaza Center), created Southern Auto Action in 1958 and sponsored men's fast pitch softball teams locally in the 60's. Mr. McMahan sponsored the sportsmanship trophy of the Golden Gloves at City Lake Park and raised and raced thoroughbred horses for 40 years.
Survivors include a son, Mr. L. Ray McMahan and wife Candy of Ruffin, N.C.; daughters, Mrs. Nova Fuller and husband Troy of Graham and Mrs. Tammy Deluca of Raleigh; a sister, Mrs. Ollie McMahan Hinson of High Point; five grandchildren, Jamie White, Heather Stuckey, Brenda Deluca, Allison McMahan and Taylor Fuller; four great-grandchildren, Gage White, Ryan White, Tyler Stuckey and Aden Stuckey.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, Dec. 22 at 11 a.m. from the Chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service in Archdale by Dr. James (Jimmy) Hinson. Entombment with military rites by the Randolph County Honor Guard will follow in the Floral Garden Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
