MEBANE - Lonnie Lee "L.L." Aulbert Jr., 91, of 1140 Newberry Drive, died Saturday, April 7, 2012, at VA Medical Center in Durham.
Born March 5, 1921 to Lonnie Lee Aulbert Sr. and Nannie Rice Aulbert, L.L. was a World War II veteran and served our country in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Haynesworth in the Pacific Theatre where he was injured during battle and earned the Purple Heart.
He became a rural mail carrier in 1953 and retired in 1974. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Mebane where he served as a deacon and was a member of the American Legion and DAV.
Survivors include his wife; Doris Wilson Aulbert; daughter; Linda A. Courtney (Cecil); son; Rodney L. Aulbert (Anne); grandson; L. Wilson Aulbert, Jr. (Karen); granddaughter; Lee A. Oliver (Jeff); step grandsons; Ray Courtney(Graselia), Jonathan Courtney, Grayson Chappel and Conner Chappel; great grandsons; Matthew Aulbert, Luke Aulbert and Dalton Flynt; and step great grandsons; Kyle Knodel, Kirk Knodle, Raymond Courtney and Jesse Oliver.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Lonnie Wilson Aulbert, Sr.; great-grandson; Sean Aulbert; and siblings; Dan York Aulbert, Martha Jane Aulbert, Hazel A. Holt and Edith A. Thomas.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church of Mebane with Dr. Terry Farmer officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery with military honors.
The family will receive friends at McClure Funeral Home in Mebane Monday evening from 5 to 7, other times at the residence.
