BURLINGTON - Mrs. Mary Lee Miles Love, 81, of 203 Albany St., died at her residence Sept. 20, 2014.
She was the wife of the late Eldridge Love and daughter of Joe David Miles Sr. and Annie Lee Chavis Miles, both deceased. She taught in the Alamance-Burlington School System for more than 40 years and the first African-American to own a retirement home in Alamance County. She was a mother of New Covenant United Holy Church and often fed the homeless, and gifted anonymously. She was a Winston-Salem State Alumna, Class of 1955.
Survivors include a brother, Joe David Miles Jr. (Jean) of Green Level; a sister, Jean Carolyn Miles Evans of Burlington; grandchildren April Locklear and Diamond Locklear, both of Burlington; and two great-grandchildren, Kingston Thompson and Tylee Locklear.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Marguerite "Yvette" Love Locklear and a sister, Lula Hazel Miles Hightower.
Public viewing will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 23 at Blackwell Funeral Home with a wake from 7 to 8 p.m. in the Roy Blackwell Chapel at the funeral home.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, at New Covenant United Holy Church. The body will lie in state from noon to 1 p.m. with the family arriving at 12:30 p.m. Burial will be in Miles Chapel cemetery. At other times the family will be at the home.
