BURLINGTON - Mrs. Mary Louise Smith Mason, 101, of 3910 Mine Creek Road, died at her residence Sunday, Dec. 1, 2013.

A native of Alamance County, she was born Feb. 4, 1912, and grew up in Burlington. She was the wife of the late Worth Mason and the daughter of George D. Smith and Frances Riggsbee Smith, both deceased.
Mrs. Mason was a graduate of Meredith College with a degree in Music. She was a piano and organ teacher for over 45 years, kindergarten teacher, Brownie leader, active in church activities, volunteer at Friendship Center, entertainer, musician and author of her book, Mary Louise Opus.
Survivors include her daughter, Rita Mason Ellis of Beaufort; son, Edward Douglas Mason and wife Anne of Greensboro; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Elwood Smith; two sisters, Edith Smith and Ruby Dale Smith Holland; and son-in-law, Benjamin Ellis.
The funeral service will be conducted in the Rich & Thompson Chapel in Burlington on Thursday, Dec. 5, 2013, at 11 a.m. by the Rev. David Wade.
The family will receive friends at the Rich & Thompson Funeral and Cremation Service in Burlington on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m.
