Michael M. Holp Obituary

BURLINGTON - Michael M. Holp, 88, went to be with the Lord Wednesday, Aug. 24, 2011. Michael was born Sept. 8, 1922, in Baggaley, Pa., raised in Lemont Furnace, Pa., lived in Ohio for a number of years and recently resided in Burlington, N.C.
Michael was the youngest of six children, born of John and Mary (Butella) Holp, all who preceded him in death. They were Veronica Husek, John Holp, Joseph Holp Sr., Helen Lucis and Julia Thomas.
Michael proudly served overseas twenty-five months in New Guinea, the Philippines and Japan with the 593rd Boat and Shore Regiment during World War II. He entered the Army Jan. 21, 1943, and was honorably discharged Jan. 2, 1946. He was a member of the American Legion Post #63 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #10607, both in Burlington.
Michael is survived by his wife, Evelyn Lavenia (Abbott) Holp, who still resides in Burlington. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews, who all referred to him as Uncle Mickey.
A service to celebrate his life will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Lowe Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc.
