MONROE, N.C. - Mrs. Esther Payne Caviness, 76, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, July 19, 2013, at Carolina Medical Center in Pineville, N.C.

Esther was born Jan. 1, 1937 in Liberty, N.C., the daughter of the late Robert Foy and Helen Bray Payne. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Jerry A. Caviness, who died Nov. 28, 2009, and brothers, Robert Hugh Payne and William Howard Payne. Esther was retired from Bell South after 32 years of service, and was a loving mother and grandmother.
Visitation will be Wednesday, July 24, 2013 from 1:00 until 2:15 P.M. in the Central United Methodist Church fellowship hall. Services to celebrate her life will follow at 2:30 P.M. in the Church Sanctuary with the Rev. George Freeman and the Rev. Britt Hadley officiating. Inurnment will follow in the Church Columbarium.
Survivors include one daughter, Lisa C. Hargette and husband, Rob, of Waxhaw, N.C.; three grandchildren, Cliff Hargette, Clay Hargette and Claire Hargette, all of Waxhaw N.C.; three sisters, Rachel Wilkinson and husband, Bill, of Burlington N.C., Joyce Clayton and husband, Buck, of Efland N.C., and Faye Payne of West Jefferson, N.C.; two brothers, Norman Payne and wife, Margaret, of New Bern, N.C., Herbert Payne and wife, Dink, of Mebane, N.C.
