GRAHAM –- Mr. Palmer A. Newcomer Sr., 91, of 1025 Pomeroy Street, Lot 5, Graham, died Tuesday, April 23, 2013 at his residence.

A native of Rockbridge County, Virginia, he was the husband of the late Annie Marie Hutchens Newcomer and the son of Samuel Newcomer and Annie Lee Gaylor Newcomer, both deceased. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during World War II, and retired in 1977 from Western Electric. Mr. Newcomer was a member of Glen Raven Baptist Church and was an avid checkers and cards player.
Survivors include his daughter, Diane Williamson and husband John of Leasburg; four sons, Palmer A. Newcomer Jr. and wife Donna of Graham, Michael L. Newcomer and wife Judy of Snow Camp, Rodney E. Newcomer and wife Phyllis of Mebane and Danny R. Newcomer and wife Lisa of Snow Camp; 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Lula Riley of Lexington, Va.
He was predeceased by four sisters and six brothers.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, April 26, 2013 in the Rich and Thompson Chapel in Graham with the Rev. Bobby Fann officiating. Entombment will follow at the Mausoleum of Alamance Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends Friday, April 26 from 1 until 2 p.m., prior to the service, at the Rich and Thompson Funeral Home and Crematory in Graham and at other times at the residence.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Stephanie, Debbie, Terry, Rosa and Caroline of Hospice, who gave special care to Mr. Newcomer during his illness.
