Robert George Schmidt, 92, passed away on the April 21, 2014, at the Twin Lakes Nursing Facility in Burlington, N.C. Robert was born in Waterloo, Iowa, and was the only child of Joseph and Elizabeth Schmidt. He was married to Margaret Hanna Schmidt for over 60 years and is survived by his two daughters and four grandsons.

Robert received his BA from Illinois College, his Masters from Harvard and his Doctorate from Washington University. He had a distinguished career as a professor of Anthropology, Criminology and Sociology, retiring as Professor Emeritus from Akron University. His publications include Latin America within Courses on United States History and The Economics of Recreation.
Robert and his wife believed in active volunteerism, and during his lifetime, Robert was honored by West Side Neighbors in Ohio, The Retired Senior Volunteer Program, the Association of Retired Persons in N.C. and was president of the Orange County Association. At Twin Lakes Community, he served on the Evelyn Apple Scholarship Program, part of the Twin Lakes Auxiliary.
The family would like to thank the Ferrells along with all of their neighbors in Zwingli Court for their support and thoughtfulness and the dedicated staff of the Twin Lakes Nursing facility.
