ELON - Mr. Ronald Gheen Copland, 69, of 512 Truitt Drive, Elon, and also of Figure 8 Island, died at Duke University Medical Center on Monday, Dec. 2, 2013, following four months of declining health.
A native of Burlington, N.C., he was the husband of Gail Isley Copland, who survives, and the son of James Reuben Copland Jr. and Lillian Gheen Copland, both deceased.
He was a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Ronald was Vice Chairman of Copland Fabrics and Copland Inc., where he was employed for 50 years.
Ronald was former Chairman of the Alamance County United Way, a member of The Advisory Board of the UNC Rams Club and an avid supporter of all things Carolina. He was also a member of the Alamance Country Club and Figure 8 Island Yacht Club. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing and boating.
In addition to his wife, survivors include his daughters, Paige Copland Simpson and fiancé Robert Holton Moody, Adrienne Copland Florian and husband James Joseph and Lauren Taylor Copland; granddaughters, Charlotte Grace Pittard and Grace Elizabeth Florian; and brother, James Reuben Copland III and wife Harriett.
A memorial service will be conducted at Harvest Baptist Church on Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2013, at 1 p.m. by Pastor Michael Mitchener of Westside Fellowship. After the memorial service, the family will be at the home, 512 Truitt Drive, Elon, N.C.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Duke University Hospital Cancer Center, c/o Duke Cancer Institute, Office of Development, DUMC 3828, Durham, NC 27710.
