BURLINGTON - Mr. Roy Z. Glasgow Sr., 86, died at the Hospice Home on Monday, Sept. 16, 2013 at 8:15 a.m.
A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of the late Elizabeth "Betty" Isley Glasgow and the son of late William Clinton Glasgow Sr. and Swannie Kivett Glasgow. Roy formerly owned and operated Glasgow's Grocery with his wife and retired from LabCorp. He was also employed part time at Rich & Thompson Funeral Service for several years. He was a member of St. Mark's Church for over 60 years and served in the U.S. Navy on Okinawa during World War II.
Surviving are his son, Roy Z. "Buster" Glasgow Jr. and wife Mary of Burlington; two granddaughters, Emily Elizabeth Glasgow of Asheville and Deana Glasgow Starr and husband Dylan of Burlington; sister, Shirley Adams and husband Bill of Snow Camp; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Ruby G. Hamilton; and two brothers, Calvin C. Glasgow and William C. "Billy" Glasgow Jr.
The funeral service will be conducted at St. Mark's Church on Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2013 at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Robert M. Disher Jr. and the Rev. Ben Bishop officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the Rich & Thompson Funeral & Cremation Service in Burlington on Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2013 from 5 to 7 p.m. At other times the family will be at the residence of Roy and Mary Glasgow.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Mark's Church, 1230 St. Mark's Church Road, Burlington, NC 27215 or the Hospice Home of Alamance-Caswell, 918 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, NC 27215.
The family would like to thank George Cardenas, Marie Minnis, ARMC Cancer Center Staff, Kernodle Clinic Staff, Hospice of Alamance-Caswell and the Staff of Rich & Thompson for their compassion, care and support.
