MADISON - Russell Autry Foley, 75, passed away Saturday evening, May 18, 2013, at his home.

An 11 a.m. memorial service will be held Wednesday, May 22, 2013, at Mayodan First Baptist Church with the Rev. Randy Jessup officiating.
A lifetime Rockingham County resident, Autry was born Aug. 23, 1937, the son of Charlie Russell Foley and Mary Elizabeth Wright Foley. He graduated from Madison High School in 1956 and attended Western Carolina University. Autry was a U.S. Army veteran and retired from the U.S. Postal Service.
He was a member of Mayodan First Baptist Church and served his church as a Sunday school teacher. In service to his community, Autry served as a volunteer football and baseball coach at Madison and Mayodan Recreation Center, shaping and influencing the lives of many young people through the years.
In addition to his parents, Autry was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Kyla Anne Foley.
Autry is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Brenda Joyce Foley of the home; three children, Michele Foley Gross and husband, William, of Holly Springs, Brian Foley and wife, Rebecca, of Gibsonville, and Bradley R. Foley and wife, Christina, of Thomasville; his sister, Yvonne Morton and husband, Mike, of Madison; two brothers, Douglas Foley of Mebane and Kirby Foley and wife, Gayle, of Chesapeake, Va.; six grandchildren, Allison Gross, Jayson Gross, Blake Foley, Brock Foley, Erin Foley and Joshua Foley; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Autry was a GREAT man. He loved and provided well for his family and will be greatly missed. Autry loved going to the beach with his family. He enjoyed listening to bluegrass music, especially the banjo. Autry loved the Blue Devils of Duke University.
