Shirley worked as a security guard for many years before retiring as a correctional officer at the Men's Central Prison in Raleigh, N.C. after eight years of service.
In addition to her husband of the home, survivors include two sons, Joseph J. "Joey" Gregory of the home and James R. "Jimmy" Gregory and wife Jamie of Snow Camp; daughter, Jennifer Leanne Talley and husband Chuck of Graham; seven grandchildren, Joseph Alan Gregory, Brittney Kay Martello, Taylor Michael Clemmons, Jeanie Leanne Gregory, Gracie Lynn Gregory, Carson Garrett Talley and Courtney Elizabeth Talley; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Sylvia Ann Hurlocker Taylor and Clara Jean Hurlocker Freeman.
The funeral service will be conducted in the Mausoleum Chapel of Alamance Memorial Park on Thursday, May 15, 2014, at 2:30 p.m. by the Rev. Mike Mitchener.
