BURLINGTON - Sylvia Murrray Cates 66. of 5077 Rascoe Dameron Road went to be with the Lord Friday, April 13, 2012 at Alamance Regional Medical Center following a period of declining health.
She was born in Danville, Virginia May 9, 1945 to the late Beverly and Ruby Anderson Murray. She was a graduate of Aycock High School in Orange County. She loved to cook and bake, sew and also loved flowers. She retired from AKG of America (Radiator Manufacturers) and was a member of Grace Baptist Church on Rascoe Dameron Road.
Survivors include her husband, Irvin M. Cates of the home; one daughter, Wendy Cook and fiancé Ray Morris of Gibsonville; two sons Darrell Cook and wife Jackie of Mebane and Chad Cook and wife Terry of Leasburg; seven grandchildren, Christopher Cook, Tim Pruitt, Casey Pruitt, Stephanie Pruitt, Jordan Elmore Dylan Ray and Dacey Ray; and one great-grandchild, Kiley Alexis Lopez.
A memorial service will be Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Grace Baptist Church with pastor John Crews officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the Memorial Service.
Harrelson Funeral Service is assisting the Cates family with arrangements.
