MEBANE - Mr. Walter Poole, 93, of 751 Gunn Poole Road, died Feb. 27, 2013 at his home.

He was the husband of Mrs. Erma Daye Poole of the home and son of Mr. Henry Poole and Mrs. Emma Thaxton Poole, both deceased. He was a retired self-employed farmer. He loved farming, hunting, gardening and working with tractors. He had a very special love for his grandchildren. He was a member of Beulah Baptist Church.
Survivors include sons, Walter Leon Poole (Josephine) of Mebane, Grady Poole (Pat) of Graham, Perry Poole (Darlene) of Burlington, Ernest Poole of Mebane and Amos Poole of the home; six daughters, Catheryn Hooker (Robert), Gladys Pennix (Willie) both of Mebane, Helen Torain (Ernest) of Cedar Grove, Mary Ann Holman (Phill), Lena Pounds (James), both of Mebane and Eva Wilson (Steve) of Danville; a brother, Archie Lea of Greensboro; two sisters, Bernice Bigelow and Mabel Thompson, both of Burlington; 18 grandchildren 16 great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Carolyn Lynette Poole and several other sisters and brothers.
The wake will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 2 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. with public viewing from 1 to 8 p.m. Saturday, March 2, 2013. At other times the family will receive friends at the home.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Sunday, March 3, 2012 at Beulah Baptist Church with the Rev. Jerry O. Wilson delivering the eulogy. The body will lie in state a half hour prior to the service with family visitation at 12:30 p.m. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Services are entrusted to Blackwell Funeral Home, Burlington.
