HAW RIVER, N.C. - Mr. William Graham Yates, 87, of 2048 Alexander Drive, died Tuesday, April 23, 2013 at Hospice Home.
Born in Durham County, N.C., he retired from Cone Mills. After retirement he worked as a part-time security guard for over 20 years. Mr. Yates was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific and the Atlantic. He recently participated in the Triad Flight of Honor. He was an avid golfer and bowler. He was inducted into the Durham-Orange-Person USBC Bowling Hall of Fame in 2007.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia Aulbert Yates, of the home; daughters, Pamela Fayle (Bill) of Haw River, Vicki Stanley (Kenneth) of Burlington and Renee Nelson (Tim) of Climax, N.C.; son Kerry Yates (Ginger) of Graham; grandchildren, Shawn Fayle, Kelly Fayle, Scott Yates (Mindy), Lane Yates (Karen), Mikki Mangum (Percy), Jennifer Holliday (Jimmie), Ashley Stanley, Gray Ramsey, Brittany Evans (Nate), Kelsey Nelson, Kaitlyn Nelson and Allie Nelson; seven great-grandchildren and one soon to be great-grandson.He was preceded in death by his parents, Norman Genada Yates and Allie Laura Strickland Yates; daughter, Eileen Yates Ramsey; two brothers and one sister.
The family will receive friends at McClure Funeral Home in Mebane from 6 until 8 Friday evening and at other times at the home.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 27, 2013 in the McClure Funeral Home Chapel in Mebane by Pastor, Dr. Tim Taylor. Burial will be in the Alamance Memorial Park Mausoleum.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Alamance-Caswell, 918 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, NC 27215 or to Powerline Church of the Nazarene, Manning Road, Elon, NC.
