RALEIGH -William "Bill" Henry Skeels IV, 63, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2013, at his residence in Raleigh, N.C. He was born June 22, 1949 in Durham, N.C. to William Henry Skeels III and Norma Meador Skeels (deceased).

Bill graduated from Williams High School in Burlington, N.C., UNC-Chapel Hill (BA) and UNC-Chapel Hill law school in 1974. He was an avid Tar Heel basketball fan and played on the UNC freshman team in 1967.
He practiced law for nine years in Birmingham, Ala., Buffalo, N.Y. and Richmond, Va. before coming to Raleigh, N.C. In Sept. 1991, Bill married Roxanne Strout. For the past 30 years, he and Roxanne had their own business providing computer consulting services in the legal, utility and political fields.
Bill's interest in travel leaned toward the more adventurous variety. In his younger days, he spent three months traveling through South America. He and Roxanne traveled to Portugal and Czechoslovakia where they were International Observers during the country's first free elections after the fall of the Iron Curtain.
A true animal lover at heart, Bill was devoted to his dogs, Simon and Shoester. He enjoyed taking long walks and exploring the outdoors with them.
Bill had a passion for creating music with friends and performed with a number of bands around the Triangle area; The Hell and High Water Band, The Foghorn Band, Pamlico Sound, The Big Range Band, and most recently Witness Protection. He was renowned for, not only his voluminous knowledge of artists and songs, but his pure, sweet tenor voice that enhanced the sound of anyone who had the pleasure to sing with him. He performed as far away as Arkansas and New York and recently appeared as one of the By-Pass Boys in the stage show "Kudzu."
Bill is survived by his wife, Roxanne; father, William Henry Skeels III of Burlington, N.C. and brother, David Lee Skeels of Jamestown, N.C.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Carol Skeels Kerr.
Bill was also a beloved brother-in-law to James and Susan Tilley, Gerald and Beverly Mazzetti, Marguerite Hogg and the late Ralph Hogg, all residing in Buffalo, NY.
Services will be held Monday, Feb. 4 at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church, 400 Broad Street, Burlington, N.C 27215. A reception will follow in the fellowship hall.
