GREENSBORO - William Jennings Caviness, 94, of Greensboro, died Wednesday, October 10, 2012 at Beacon Place, Greensboro.

The funeral service will be held Saturday, October 13, 2012 at 2 p.m. at Forbis and Dick North Elm Street Chapel. The family will receive friends from 1 until 1:45 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home and other times at the home of Ann C. Causey. Interment will be at Lakeview Memorial Park following the service.
Mr. Caviness was a Moore County native and graduated from Elise Academy. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II aboard the SS Cape Victory. He retired from Cone Mills after 48 years of service. He was also the owner of W. J. Caviness Plumbing and Heating. Jennings was a member of Newlyn Street United Methodist Church and served as chairman of the trustees. In his later years he joined Reedy Fork Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Cox Caviness. He was also preceded in death by his wife Jeannine Cooke Caviness; brothers, Dewey Caviness Sr., Harris Caviness, Quinton Caviness, the Rev. Howard Caviness and Marvin Caviness; sisters, Geneva Brady and Swannie Dunn.
He is survived by his daughters Ann C. Causey and Nancy C. Hawks, both of Greensboro. Also surviving is a son, William Jennings "Bill" Caviness Jr., of Burlington, a stepson, William "Sam" Allred, of Mooresville, N.C.; a stepdaughter, Beverly Sutherland of California; sisters, Glenna Allred of Robbins, Elouise Bray of Chapel Hill, N.C., and Lena Leonard of Bennett.
