SOUTH HILL, Va. - Willie Mae Moorefield Oakley, 88, died Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2014, at her home.

A native of Person County, N.C., she was the daughter of Leonard Moorefield and Mary Moorefield, both deceased.
Willie Mae was preceded in death by her loving husband of 55 years, Vernon B. Oakley Sr., and by her brother, Ellis Moorefield. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of South Hill, and a very devoted and loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
She is survived by three sons, Vernon B. Oakley Jr. and wife, Betty, of South Hill, Woody L. Oakley and wife, Cynthia, of South Hill and Dr. Melvin L. Oakley and wife, Deborah, of Eufaula, Ala.; a daughter, Charlotte O. Hoy and husband, Douglas of Burlington, N.C.; eight grandchildren, Christa Moore (Michael) of Birmingham, Ala., Brad Oakley (Tiffany) of Charlotte, N.C., Matthew Oakley (Holly) of Hoboken, N.J., Amy Oakley and Jennifer Waller of South Hill, Laura Bailey (Ray) of Burlington, Martha Strick (David) of Chester Springs, Pa. and William Oakley (Katie) of Wilmette, Ill.; 12 great-grandchildren; sisters, Geraldine M. Crum (Madison) of Hillsborough, N.C., Alice M. Whitfield (Richard) of Roxboro, N.C.; a brother, Eugene Moorefield of Roxboro; and three very special caregivers, Sharon Baskerville, Josette Cole and Carrie James.
A service to celebrate her life will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 21, 2014, at the First Baptist Church of South Hill by Dr. Kevin Rosenfeld with interment following the service at Crestview Memorial Cemetery in South Hill.
