BURLINGTON - Mrs. Wilma Gray "Billie" Blanchard Murphy, 80, of Burlington, died at the Hospice Home on Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2013, at 1 p.m. following a brief illness.

A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of 59 years to Clayton Coleman Murphy, who survives, and the daughter of B.F. Blanchard Sr. and Ida Mae Siler Blanchard, both deceased. She was a homemaker and loved gardening, writing and poetry. Billie was also an avid country music fan.
In addition to her husband of the home, survivors include two children, Coleman Douglas Murphy and wife Carol of Nashville, Tenn., and Cynthia Jane "Cindy" Murphy and fiancé Darrell Barrett Jr. of Burlington; one grandchild, Christina Jane Botzis of Whitsett; sister, Sarah Blanchard Faulkner of Burlington; sister-in-law, Esther Perry Blanchard of Burlington; brother-in-law, H. Raymond Garrison of Burlington; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Curtis Blanchard and wife Ruby Oliver Blanchard and B.F. Blanchard Jr.; and two sisters, Annie Mae Lee Payne and Eva Blanchard Garrison.
The family will receive friends at the Rich & Thompson Funeral and Cremation Service in Burlington on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m.
The funeral service will be conducted at Long's Chapel Christian Church on Saturday, Aug. 24, 2013, at 11 a.m. by the Rev. R.J. Zupancich. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
