BURLINGTON - Thomas Kenneth Gibson, 90, of The Village at Brookwood, 1880 Brookwood Ave., Apt. 313, died Monday, Feb. 10, 2014.
A native of Nutley, N.J, Thomas was the youngest child of the late Mary E. Watson and David Gibson.
Tom served with the 33rd Signal Construction Battalion in World War II. He was a an Eagle Scout, a National Weather Observer and a member of The Old Guard of Rutgers University, the Durham Engineers' Club, the Alamance Seniors Golf Assoc., Tau Beta Pi Engineering Society, Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity and General Electric Co. Elfun Society.
He was a life-long Episcopalian, serving as a Lay Reader, Finance Committee chairman and a five-time Senior Warden of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Haw River, N.C.
Tom spent 40 years with the General Electric Co. and was a former sales manager of General Electric's Mebane N.C. operation.
In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, May Alice Miller Gibson; and brothers, Wallace H. Gibson, David S. Gibson, John Gibson, Rodney P. Gibson and Joseph W. Gibson; and sister Marion E. Gibson Beck.
He is survived by his children, David T. Gibson and wife Lynette, of Kansas City, Mo.; grandson, Lt. Michael D. Gibson (U.S.N.) and wife Molly A. Gibson of Chesapeake, Va.; great-grandson, Jacob M. Gibson; and great-granddaughter, Elizabeth A. Gibson; granddaughter, Jennifer L. Sullivan and husband Michael D. Sullivan, of Kansas City, Mo.; and great-granddaughters, Jillian E. Sullivan and Makenzi J. Sullivan; sons, The Rev. Dr. John K. Gibson, and wife Cindy H. Gibson, of Cary, N.C. and Peter L. Gibson, and wife Cindy J. Gibson, and granddaughter, Meahgan N. Gibson, of Morristown, N.J.; and brother-in-law, Thomas R. Miller Jr. and wife Marianne, of Scotia, N.Y.
A funeral will be conducted at The Gathering Place, The Village at Brookwood at 1:30 p.m., Friday, Feb. 14, 2014, by The Rev. Samuel K. Frazier Jr.
