BURLINGTON, N.C. - Mr. Stuart Hockaday, 90, of Burlington, formerly of Greensboro, died Thursday, February 20, 2014 at Twin Lakes Community.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, February 24, 2014 in the chapel within the Coble Building at 3801 Wade Coble Drive, Twin Lakes Community, Burlington, NC, by Father Mark Menees.
Stuart was born January 26, 1924 in Lillington, the son of William Thomas Hockaday and Linda Gardner Hockaday.
Stuart attended the Merchant Marine Academy in New York and went on to serve his country with the Merchant Marines during WWII. He was a charter member of Irving Park United Methodist Church in Greensboro and was a current member of First United Methodist Church of Elon. Stuart was a member of the Masonic Blue Lodge #694 since 1951. He enjoyed working at Thompson Arthur Construction Company for 33 years, retiring as Vice President of Construction, was an avid golfer who enjoyed quail hunting and horseback riding, and most of all had a passion for learning.
In addition to his parents, Stuart was preceded in death by his brother, Charlie Hockaday, two sisters, Rae Sheppard and Reba Ward and grandson, Daniel Treadway.
Surviving are his wife, Janell Hockaday; daughter, Linda Treadway (Ollie) of Winston-Salem; son, Larry Hockaday (Lynn) of Charlotte; grandchildren, Justin Treadway of Charlotte and SPC Chris Hockaday (Alyssa) of Ft. Lewis, Seattle, WA; nephew, Jay Bolejack (Norma) of Gibsonville and his devoted friends George Black and Gene Ferrell.
