ELON - Mrs. Doris Hill McCrickard, 91, of 210 West Haggard Avenue, Elon went home to be with her heavenly Father on Tuesday, March 18, 2014, at 10:36 p.m. after a sudden illness with several years of declining health.
A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of the late Richard A. McCrickard Sr. and the daughter of Oliver Ernest Hill and Mamie Lee Patton Hill, both deceased. She retired from Burlington Handbags. She was also a homemaker and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Doris was a devoted member of the First Baptist Church of Elon since 1961 and a member of the Epsie Somers Sunday School Class.
Survivors include two daughters, Barbara McCrickard Crook of Elon and Faye McCrickard Wood and husband Tom of Jacksonville, Fla.; five sons, Richard A. McCrickard Jr. and wife Janet of Chapel Hill, Michael A. McCrickard and wife Janie of Burlington, William Joseph McCrickard and wife Theresa of Clayton, Danny McCrickard and wife Aleta of Burlington and Barry L. McCrickard of Burlington; sister-in-law, Edith Hill of Reno, Nev.; 16 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda M. Haley; three sisters, Edna Ramey, Katherine Brooks and Faye Williams; and brother, William Hill.
The funeral service will be conducted at the First Baptist Church of Elon on Saturday, March 22, 2014, at 11 a.m. by the Rev. David Durham. Burial will follow in Alamance Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends at the Rich & Thompson Funeral and Cremation Service in Burlington on Friday, March 21, 2014, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. At other times they will be at the residence, 210 West Haggard Avenue, Elon, N.C.
