Mr. Renaldo Watkins, age 78, of 2708 Evergreen Lane, Burlington, N.C. died at 7:06 p.m. Saturday, April 5, 2014, at the Hospice Home of Burlington after three years of failing health. He was a member of the Beacon Baptist Church, a proud member of the Occaneechi Band of the Saponi Nation, a U.S. Army veteran having served in Germany. He was an avid fisherman, hunter, and enjoyed a competitive game of bowling. Renaldo retired from General Electric, was born in Alamance County and graduated from Pleasant Grove High School. Preceding him in death are his parents William Andrew Watkins and Rena Miles Watkins, and a sister, Sonya Slade.
Surviving are his wife Shirley Parker Watkins of the home; daughter, Patty Watkins of the home; son, Scotty Watkins of Elon; a grandson, Justin Doss of Burlington; former daughter-in-law, Jill Watkins; former son-in-law, Sean Bostwick; six sisters, Mrs. EmmaJean Slade of Newport News, Va., Mrs. Louella Burnette and husband Weldon of Burlington, Mrs. Vicky Wiley and husband Ricardo of Hampton, Va., Mrs. Laura Morrow of Mebane, Mrs. Geneva Hayes of Seaside, Calif. and Mrs. Sudie Jeffries of Burlington; four brothers William Watkins and wife Jattie of Burlington, Alton Watkins and wife Alfreda of Burlington, Ravon Watkins and wife Aline of Burlington, Lawrence Watkins and wife Paulette of Burlington and a host of loving nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at the McClure Funeral Home in Graham on Tuesday evening from 6 until 8. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 9, 2014, at the Beacon Baptist Church with burial to follow in the Alamance Memorial Park with Military Honors.
